About Trio

Khachaturian Trio was founded as trio “Arsika” in 1999. The ensemble had tours in over 100 cities in 30 countries, performed in most famous concert halls, such as Musikverein, Wien, Laiezhalle, Hamburg, Gewandhaus, Leipzig, Gasteig-Philharmonie, Munich, Purcell Room, London, Suntory hall, Tokyo, Koerner Hall, Toronto. Participated in a number of prestigious festivals – the Festival de las Artes (Costa Rica), Festival International Cervantino (Mexico), “Russiche Kammermusikfest” in Hamburg, Malta International Music Festival to name a few. Trio’s performances have been frequently broadcasted by TV and Radio. 

The musical critics highly praise Khachaturian Trio’s virtuous performances, subtle sense of style, warmest sound, brilliant and deep musicality. From 2006 the Trio has been performing in the following members: Armine Grigoryan – piano, Karen Shahgaldyan – violin, Karen Kocharyan – cello. Members of the Trio are involved in pedagogic activity giving master classes in music schools of various regions of Armenia. The Trio performs actively, during these years Khachaturian Trio has for about 70 concerts in a season.

In 2008 the ensemble was renamed after the outstanding Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian.

In 2010 the musicians together with Aram Khachaturian’s close friend, benefactor Assadour Guzelian, established Classical Music Development Foundation, which helped them to improve their educational and charity activity.

Repertoire

Ensemble has several special projects with orchestra. Three concertos during one night by Khachaturian, for piano, for violin and Concerto-rhapsody for cello. Similar project, dedicated to Tchaikovsky.

Khachaturian’s solo sonatas – for piano, for violin, for cello and for viola, (violist – Maxim Novikov), which were also recorded for a CD.

Very important part of the Trio’s repertoire is Triple concerto by Beethoven.

Khachaturian Trio’s special projects that are held in Armenia, have a great popularity: monographic concerts, dedicated to anniversaries of outstanding composers of the past and the present (Brahms, Bach, Debussy, Dvorak, Schumann, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Richard Strauss, Eduard Mirzoyan, Alexander Harutyunyan, Karen Khachaturian, Avet Terteryan, Tigran Mansuryan, Georgs Pelecis). Special project, towards the Childrens’ Day, there was a concert during which the great composers’ works, that they wrote when they were just children, were performed (Mozart, Mendelssohn, Rossini, Schubert). There was a great concert titled “Music of the City”, which united music and architecture. The works of Armenian Composers of 20s, 50s, 70s and 2000s were performed during the program, and at the same time the archive scenes from Yerevan were presented on the screen.

The Trio works in tight collaboration with contemporary composers. It has premiered a number of new works, which were commissioned by them. The Trio’s repertoire covers a wide range of music styles.

The Trio has good connections with Aram Khachaturian Museum in Yerevan, which is possible to call a “laboratory” for musicians of the Trio. They have recorded CDs, their concerts are permanently take place here, as well as several educational projects, which were inspired by musicians of the Trio were held in Maestro’s house.
